COLOUR RESPONSIBLE POLICY

COLOUR SAFETY

The use of hair dyes is strictly regulated and their ingredients are approved for use in hair colour in the UK, EU and across the world. However, an allergy can develop over time, so it is possible that you could have an allergic reaction even if you have not had one in the past.

At Bijou Hairdressing we will conduct an Allergy Alert Test to see if you are allergic to hair colour products. We cannot colour your hair if we do not have proof of safety to proceed.

Call the salon on 01983 533296 for any more information as required.

ALLERGY ALERT TEST (A.A.T.)

Cost: Free

Test: Must be completed in the salon at least 48 hours before your appointment.

If you are having any hair colouration service done with us at Bijou Hairdressing, we will require you to have had an up to date Allergy Alert Test (A.A.T.)

We will apply the test behind your ear where it needs to be left for 48 hours (if Using L’Oréal or Keune), or applied on the arm and developed for 45 minutes (if using Wella). If you experience any signs of irritation, reddening, swelling, inflammation or itching please inform the salon. If you develop any symptoms that make you feel unwell please consult a medical professional.

L’Oréal & Wella both have a salon Protocol that we follow.

Protocol:

*If you are a new client, or if is has been more than 6 months since your last colour with us, or we are going to use a different shade or brand we will need you to attend the salon at least 48 hours before your colour appointment, where we will perform the A.A.T. on you.

Subsequent colour services may not require an A.A.T., but will require us to ask you screening questions before we can proceed with a colour service.

An A.A.T. must be done once a year (*unless as stated above) and we will request that you book an appointment for this. However, there are a few exceptions that will need to be done 48 hours before EVERY colour. If this affects you, please discuss this with your stylist as you may wish to use the Colourstart Test option for convenience (see below).

We will not be able to proceed with your colour if you’re A.A.T. is out of date.

SKIN TESTING – Frequently Asked Questions:

How is my information stored?

Your details are securely and confidentially stored in the salon.

How long does an A.A.T. take and how much does it cost?
You will need an A.A.T. appointment at least 48 hours before your colour appointment. It takes 10 -50 minutes in the salon (dependent on brand used) and is a free test. However, Wella A.A.T.s will take 50 minutes to perform.

Why do I need a skintest?
Reactions to hair colour can be serious and even life threatening. There are strict guidelines from manufacturers, insurers, industry bodies and the MHRA around using hair colour. We endeavour to give you peace of mind so that you can safely enjoy your visits to the salon.

Why don't you test me every time?
We use screening to monitor the need for testing you before your service. If nothing has changed since your last test and we have a valid record (typically within the last 6 months) it will be OK to proceed with your service.

I have been colouring my hair for years, why do I need a test?
One of the triggers for sensitivity and reactions to hair colour is exposure over time, therefore it is important we keep monitoring for your safety. Bijou Hairdressing is committed to your safety and use only the best products and methods for hair colouring.
